Best method for timing racing pigeons is the Electronic Timing System. This method has the feature of automatically recording the time at his arrival. Each pigeon has fitted leg band with a tiny RFID chip in it.

The Electronic scanning records pigeon arrival in the loft. The pad is placed at the entry point of the loft and as the pigeons crossed it the electronic band is scanned. The Clock is attached to the antennas. In this way the serial number of the transponder ring is recorded along with the time of arrival. As a result correct and accurate results are recorded.

Homer Pigeon Racing

The most common racer pigeon breed is the Racing Homer. In addition the Importance of homing pigeons in the centuries before electronic communications such as telephone and telegraph are seldom recognized. Homer Racer Pigeons play an import role in World War I and World War II as well. Moreover Racing homers were bred from a number of other breeds which were selected for their endurance, speed and homing abilities. On average a good homer pigeon can fly 600 miles in one day.

Former most expensive pigeon in the world, Armando male pigeon was sold to a Chinese buyer for $1.48m few years back in 2019. The bidders for both of the most expensive pigeons were from China.

One loft pigeon races are a type of race in which pigeons compete against each other. These pigeons are trained under the same loft, same diet and environment. Moreover it is best for testing the birds rather than the trainers. Its the fairest method of proving which bloodline or breeder is the best.

Pigeons are recorded by electronic timing systems scanning the birds as they enter the home loft as winners decided by as little as 100 of a second. All birds are released from a same specific location to return to same common loft. The fastest bird to complete the journey from point A to B is the winner.

One loft pigeon racing is now becoming popular all around the world. With this kind of race, fanciers are able to compare their bloodlines on an equal basis against the many other pigeons.

Racing Pigeon Training

Racing pigeon are kept in a specially designed cages known as their lofts. About the age of 4 weeks until the end of their last racing day career, loft is the Pigeon’s home where it returns. Racing pigeon chicks are moved in a separate section or loft when they are usually 22 to 25 days old. As a result they learn, to located the water, explore the area and start eating.

At age of 6 to 7 weeks, the birds will begin taking off, flying in very small circles above the loft. This is naturally way of recognizing the surrounding and observing the area around the loft. Again Training methods vary from trainer to trainer. Most fanciers used to guide and share their race training tips while others are reluctant to share their secret of training. For instance, One of the most popular method is the widowhood. The method uses the birds desire to reproduce as motivation to give bird urgency to return on race day.

Furthermore Widowhood method allows racer to raise a baby in their nest box. Once the baby grows and able to eat and drink, fanciers remove the hen and often close the nest box. As a result the only time next they see their mates or enter back their nest is upon returning from a race or training day.

Pigeon Racing in USA was introduced in United States about 1875, however the regular racing did not begin until the end of 1878. According to the American Racing Pigeon Union, there are 15,000 registered lofts under two accrediting groups. Similarly Shady Hills, Florida is home to a pigeon racing club and hosts annual racing tournaments and events.

Important to realize your loft should face east/south east to receive the morning sunlight. If this isn’t possible, you may be able to include an opening to allow all possible sunlight to enter in. When designing a pigeon loft, it is advisable to ensure that a good amount of natural light enters the space. However, it’s important to strike a balance between sunlight exposure and providing shelter and shade to protect the pigeons from excessive heat.

Additionally, providing artificial full-spectrum lighting can help supplement natural light if necessary. Particularly during the winter months when daylight hours are shorter.

Ventilation in Pigeon Lofts

This is one of the biggest mistakes new fanciers make not having enough fresh air for their birds. The loft should never feel stuffy inside and should never be dusty and make you cough. Pigeons produce body heat and the sun beating down also produces heat. Your loft will need good ventilation with slow moving fresh air. Wind powered turbines installed into the walls work very well for this and are quite cheap.  

When designing a pigeon loft, it’s essential to incorporate proper ventilation systems. This can be achieved through the use of windows, vents, or other forms of mechanical ventilation such as fans or exhaust systems. The goal is to create a comfortable and healthy environment. With good air exchange while still providing insulation and protection from drafts. Regular cleaning and maintenance of the loft, including daily removal of droppings, will also contribute to a healthier living space for the pigeons.

Beginner Simple Pigeon Loft Design

To ensure proper ventilation, it is important to raise the loft from the ground. This allows for a continuous airflow underneath while also preventing vermin from entering. If given the opportunity, rats and mice can tunnel under the loft, consuming feed and posing a threat to your pigeons.

One effective way to improve air circulation without allowing drafts is by installing plastic louvre vents. Simply cut a hole in the loft wall slightly smaller than the vent and secure it in place using screws. It’s as easy as that!

However, it’s crucial not to have vents that allow rain to beat into the loft. The general rule here is as long as there is no musty smell in the loft, there is sufficient ventilation.

Ideal Size of Pigeons Cage

Pigeons from overcrowded lofts don’t perform to their true potential. Overcrowding can increase fighting and make the birds restless as well as making the air stale. It’s very important to plan ahead how many birds you want to keep in total in the long run.

There should be at least 0.3m² floor space per bird and install  enough nest boxes and perches for any new birds you are planning to add in the loft. 

 Overcrowding will affect the health of your birds, make them unhappy and will affect their performance to fight and race in tournaments.

Floor of Pigeons Loft Design

A wooden floor acts as a good insulator, stays warm and is smooth for scraping. The disadvantage of wooden floors is that they are harder to disinfect. 

Concrete floors aren’t good for race lofts, because they are cold and retain moisture. However, they can be good for the breeding loft and you can concrete the race loft if you add heating.

Wire floors cause problems as droppings beneath the wire can get damp and grow fungus. If you do have a wire floor, you need to be meticulous in regularly treating it for fungus and insects.  

Roof of Pigeons Loft

For Racing Pigeons Loft Design – As you want your pigeons to get inside their loft immediately after landing, a flat roof is a bad idea. Ensure that you have a roof that the pigeons can’t land on so that they are forced to land on the landing board.  

1. Slanted Roof: A slanted roof allows rainwater to flow easily, preventing puddles and leaks inside the loft. It also provides better ventilation and helps control temperature.
2. Rounded Roof: A rounded roof can add an appealing aesthetic and provide extra headroom inside the loft. It also helps with water drainage and prevents snow buildup.

Pigeons Loft Design Sections 

You will need separate sections for your birds, regardless of what system you are using to train your birds. At the very minimum, if using the natural system, you will need three sections to your loft one for the male mature birds, one for female mature birds and one for the new youngsters.  

It is always advisable to have a separate, smaller section as a bird hospital, where your sick or new pigeons can be quarantined until they are 100% disease free.  These partitions can be easily achieved by erecting a simple partition wall that splits your loft in half.

It does not need to be particularly strong, just strong enough to support a door that you can move through and close behind you. To this end it can be made from a simple piece of plywood cut to fit the shed’s dimensions with a hole for a door.

پچھلے کئی مہینوں سے ایک بات محسوس کر رہا تھا۔ تو آج سوچا اپنے شوقین بھائیوں سے بھی یہ بات شیئر کروں۔ جہاں سوشل میڈیا کے بے شمار فوائد حاصل ہوئے ہیں۔ بالکل اس کے برعکس سوشل میڈیا نے بہت ساری منفی غیر منطقی اور اخلاق سے گھری ہوئی باتوں کو بھی پھیلانے میں اپنا خاص کردار ادا کیا ہے۔

اکثر گروپوں میں شوقین دوستوں کو دیکھا ہے۔ وہ خود کو اعلی اور برتر ثابت کرنے کے لیے ہر حد کو کراس کر رہے ہوتے ہیں۔ یہاں تک کہ بات گالی گلوچ تک پہنچ جاتی ہے۔ ایک طرح کی ہیجانی کیفیت طاری ہو جانے کے بعد وہی دوست ایک دوسرے کو مار دینے کی دھمکیاں بھی دے رہے ہوتے ہیں.

یہ انتہائی بری اور اخلاقی اقدار سے گری ہوئی باتیں ہیں۔ نہائیت ہی افسوس ناک امر یہ ہے کہ اس میں اکثر نامور استاد اور نامور پارٹیاں پورے زور شور سے اور فریضہ سمجھ کر اس میں اپنے آپ کو بہتر اور ناقابل شکست ثابت کرنے کی کوشش میں مصروف عمل نظر آتی ہیں۔ جس سے ہمارے امن کے شوق کو شدید نقصان کا سامنا کرنا پڑھتا ہے۔

شوق کبوتر پروری میں خود کو بڑا سمجھنا

میری تمام معزز اساتزہ اکرام سے بڑی مودبانہ گزارش ہے۔ اپنے شاگردوں کو کبوتر پروری کے ساتھ ساتھ اخلاق برداشت اور عاجزی کا سخن بھی تعلیم دیں۔ ہمارے شاگرد بھی ہمارے بچوں کے مانند ہیں۔ اگر یہ ان ضروری صفات سے عاری ہونگے تو ایسے ناخلف شاگرد کسی استاد کے لیے بھی باعث رحمت نہیں ہو سکتے۔ بلکہ باعث زحمت اور باعث شرمندگی ہونگے۔

اساتزہ اکرام بھی مثبت رویوں کا باعث بنیں۔ تاکہ ان کے زیرسایہ شاگرد بھی ان رویوں کو دیکھ کر اپنے آپ کو بہتر کر پائیں۔ سبق حاصل کر سکیں کیونکہ استاد کی طبعیت سے شاگرد بھی سبق سیکھتے ہیں۔ عزت دار اور قابل استاتزہ تو اب گروپوں میں اول تو شامل ہی نہیں ہوتے۔ اگر بصد مجبوری کسی گروپ میں ہوں بھی تو صرف اس خوف اور ڈر سے بات ہی نہیں کرتے۔ کہ کوئی بدتمیزی ہی نا کر دے۔

آپ خود سوچیں جب استاد عزت گنوانے کے ڈر سے خاموش رہنے لگے۔ تو ایک دوسرے تک علم کی منطقلی کیسے ممکن ہو گی۔ عجیب زمانہ آ گیا ہے۔ علم بانٹنے والوں کو بھی منفی رویوں کی مار سہنی پڑتی ہے۔ جب اساتزہ اکرام اس قبیع ظلم کا شکار ہونگے تو آگے کیا سبق جائے گا۔ کوئی بھی انسان حرف آخر نہیں ہوتا۔ غلطی ہم سب سے سرزد ہو سکتی ہے۔ غلطی کر کے اس پر ڈٹے رہنا تمام برائیوں کی جڑ ہے۔

شوق کبوتر پروری میں استاد اور شاگرد

غلطی مان لینا تسلیم کر لینا انسان کے بڑے ہونے کی اخلاقی طور پر سنجیدہ پروقار اور بااخلاق ہونے کی اعلی ترین مثال ہے۔ ہر شاگرد کا حق ہے کہ وہ استاد صاحبان سے سوال کرے سوال کا جواب آتا ہو تو جواب ضرور دینا چاہیے جواب نا آتا ہو تو غلط جواب نہیں دینا چاہیے کیونکہ شاگرد استادوں کی باتوں کو اتھینٹک سمجھتے ہیں اس طرح غلط تعلیم پا کر بیچارہ ساری زندگی گمراہی کے راستے پر ہی بھٹکتا رہے گا۔ اگر ہم کسی کو سیدھا راستہ نہیں دکھا سکتے تو گمراہ کرنا ظلم ہے۔

سوال نا آتا ہو تو سیدھا کہہ دیں کہ مجھے اس بارے میں علم نہیں ہے۔ کیونکہ کوئی بھی انسان کسی بھی علم میں سو فیصد مکمل نہیں ہوتا۔ فراغ دلی سے بتانے اور سمجھنے سے کئی مسائل حل ہو جاتے ہیں تو ہم ان پر قدغن کیوں لگا رہے ہیں۔ میری ناقص عقل یہ سمجھ رہی ہے کہ اگر ہم شوقین دوستوں نے اپنے رویوں کو اسی ڈگر پر رکھا تو بہت جلد وہ دن بھی آئے گا کہ شوق کبوتر پروری نفرت کا نشان سمجھا جانے لگے گا۔

میری دعا ہے کہ رب کریم ہم سب کو اپنی حیثیت اور اپنے مقام کا تعین کرنے کی توفیق عطا فرمائے اور ایسی اعلی اقدار سے نوازے کہ ہماری زبان ہمارا وجود ہمارا رویہ کسی کی بھی دل آزاری کا باعث نا بنے۔ آمین

The size of the pupil is related to the nervous system and to the bird’s willpower. Watch out for those pigeons that have large pupils. An increase in the size of the pupil means a decrease in the ability to fight in difficult circumstances. As long as I’ve been keeping pigeons, I’ve never seen champion birds with large pupils.

An expert fancier once said:

“We aren’t interested in small pupils as such, but in the factors causing them to be small. As these are closely related to willpower.”

Always look for pigeons with pupils that, even in semi darkness, are smaller than those of other birds. Pigeons with pupils that do not change at all under different lighting conditions, but always stay the same size, to me are absolutely useless for breeding as well as for highflying or racing.

Color of Iris in Pigeon Eyes

When judging the quality of a pigeon, the next important measuring scale is the color of the iris. The iris is the colored ring between the pupil and the cornea. Sometimes you may notice a thin, black ring which separates the iris from the cornea. The ring has been named after Louis Vermeyen. The Vermeyen ring, and it is very noticeable in the younger birds.

It has never been sufficiently proven if a pallid or a vividly colored eye is either good or bad. But I’ve never disguised my opinion. I prefer a richly colored eye of pigeon. The color of the eye and the richness of that color depend upon pigmentation. Of course, I’m not saying that everything is subject to eye color, but good color is a positive sign.

Neither is it important, or is it desired that the colors are present in regular rings. The iris may show all different color variations as long as the colors are deep. Starting from the very inner circumference up to the outside border.

Pigeon eyes with many colors blended together as if an artist took all the leftover paint on his palette and painted the iris with it.

Eye of Pigeon & Blood Supply

Besides the color of the eye, an even more valuable tool for judging the performance possibilities in a pigeon is the blood supply to the eye. This is because it is closely related to the components which determine the abilities to achieve and this again allows you to draw certain conclusions which are relative to the general characteristics of a certain pigeon.

When considering pigeons with large pupils, you only have 10% chance of success. While eyes without color, or not enough granulation give you no more than a 20% chance.

Common sense tells us that to have the best possible chance of being successful in the future, we should only keep pigeons with characteristics that have a positive effect on the ability to achieve.

The rate of blood supply to the eyes, which we measure by looking at the granulation and the amount of red color, is extremely important because it gives us a clear indication of how the blood supply is to the rest of the body. When the blood supply to the eye is excellent, it is very unlikely that it is inadequate to the other parts of the body.

Vitality in Pigeon

One of the basic elements needed for the ability to achieve is vitality. Vitality in a pigeon, in a way, is similar to the bird being in top form. Pigeons, with much vitality, will year after year, day after day, look the same as an ordinary flying pigeon does when it is in top condition.

To obtain high ratings in vitality and general condition a pigeon’s body needs a blood supply that is consistently higher than that of the average bird. An increase in blood supply improves the form, a decrease does the opposite. Therefore, it is safe to state that the important ingredient in pigeons which are consistently high in vitality, is their excellent blood supply system.

Circle of Correlation

Remember, pigeons with a complete correlation or ‘surveillance’ circle are better suited for breeding than for racing or flying purposes, and it would be advisable for every fancier to have a few of these birds in their loft.

Another, characteristic of a racing pigeon’s eye is the ‘Vermeyen ring’ also circle of health for pigeons. The Vermeyen ring is a small black ring, separating the colored part of the eye from the cornea, which has no color.

The best way to observe this ring is by looking at the eyes of young, dark eyed pigeons, while holding them in the light.

In mature pigeons the intensity of the ring’s color is one of the best measuring tools for determine form. A close to perfect system of blood supply results in birds that easily reach top form.

At the same time this perfect blood supply system makes the Vermeyen ring change from its normal gray color to a deeper black. The color of the ring becomes a reliable aid in evaluating the overall condition of the pigeon during the entire tournament season.

In conclusion, here is one more feature of the eyes: when we look a pigeon straight in the face with our eye level, parallel to the bird’s beak, we can see both eyes fully.
